Complete Bathroom Projects

A New Bathroom, Done Properly from Start to Finish

A bathroom renovation is one of the most disruptive things you can do in a home โ€” and also one of the most rewarding when it's done well. The difference between a bathroom that works beautifully and one that causes problems โ€” leaks behind tiles, poorly draining showers, badly siliconed edges that let water in โ€” almost always comes down to the quality of the installation. That's where experience matters.

Torrent Plumbing has been fitting bathrooms across Manchester for over 15 years. We project manage the full job, coordinate the trades involved โ€” plumbing, tiling, electrical where needed โ€” and keep you updated throughout. Whether you want a modern suite, a classic freestanding bath setup or a fully accessible wet room, we'll get it right.

The Process

How a Bathroom Project Works

We keep the process clear and manage the work so you don't have to.

๐Ÿ’ฌ

1. Initial Consultation

We visit the property, take measurements and discuss what you're looking to achieve โ€” style, layout, accessibility needs, budget. You'll get a clear, itemised quote before anything is agreed.

๐ŸŽจ

2. Design & Supply

We help you select sanitaryware, tiles, fixtures and fittings from reputable suppliers. If you've already chosen your suite, we'll work with that. Nothing is ordered until you're happy with the plan.

3. Installation

Strip-out, first fix plumbing, tanking and waterproofing, tiling, second fix and fitting out โ€” all coordinated by us. We keep the site clean and respect that you're living in the property.

4. Final Check & Handover

Before we hand over, we run every element โ€” hot and cold supplies, waste drainage, shower pressure, heating if applicable. You'll be shown how everything works and left with a clean, finished bathroom.

What to Know

Bathroom Fitting and Wet Rooms in Manchester โ€” The Detail

A standard bathroom refit involves stripping out the existing suite, reconfiguring or replacing the plumbing supply and waste pipework as needed, fitting the new sanitaryware โ€” WC, basin, bath or shower enclosure โ€” and then tiling, sealing and finishing. The quality of the first fix (the pipework before anything is tiled over) is what determines whether the bathroom stays dry and functions correctly long-term. Poor first fix work gets hidden behind tiles but shows up months later as damp patches, mould or worse. Our engineers take the groundwork as seriously as the visible finish.

Wet rooms are a different proposition to a standard bathroom with a shower enclosure. In a wet room, the entire floor is the shower tray โ€” there's no raised edge or screen to contain the water. Instead, the floor is tanked (sealed with a waterproof membrane that extends up the walls) and slopes gently towards a drain. Done correctly, a wet room is extremely effective and looks sleek and modern. Done incorrectly โ€” typically with inadequate tanking or a poorly graded floor โ€” it causes serious damp problems that are expensive to fix.

We install wet rooms using a tanking system applied to the subfloor and walls before any tiles go on. The drain and floor gradient are planned carefully before a single tile is laid. We also specify appropriate tiles for wet room floors โ€” anti-slip rating matters, and the tile size affects how the gradient can be achieved. These are details that make a real difference to the finished result and the long-term performance of the room.

Who benefits from a wet room? They're increasingly popular not just for their clean, minimal look, but also for accessibility. A barrier-free, level-access shower is far easier to use for people with mobility limitations โ€” whether that's an elderly family member, someone recovering from an injury, or simply planning ahead. Wet rooms also work well in smaller bathrooms where a shower tray and screen would feel cramped. If you're considering an en-suite in a loft conversion or bedroom extension, a wet room is often the most practical solution given the space.

En-suite installations are another area we handle regularly across Manchester. Converting a bedroom or part of a landing into an en-suite involves routing new supply and waste pipework โ€” sometimes through walls, floors or ceilings โ€” and working within the constraints of the existing house layout. We assess all of this at the consultation stage and won't quote for work we can't complete properly. Where there are structural, electrical or drainage complications, we'll tell you upfront.

All of our bathroom work is carried out to the standards set out in Part G of the Building Regulations (sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency) and, where tiling is involved, to the guidance in BS 5385. We're fully insured and our plumbing work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers where gas connections are involved. For any bathroom project across Manchester, Salford, Stockport, Trafford or anywhere else in Greater Manchester, we're happy to come out and discuss what's possible.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

โ“

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

A straightforward bathroom refit โ€” strip out, new suite, retiling โ€” typically takes 5 to 7 working days. A wet room or en-suite with more complex plumbing or extensive tiling can take 7 to 10 days. We'll give you a realistic timeframe at the quote stage and stick to it. We know a bathroom out of action is an inconvenience, so we work efficiently.

โ“

What's the difference between a wet room and a walk-in shower?

A walk-in shower uses a low-profile tray and glass screens to contain the water โ€” it looks open but still has a physical boundary. A wet room has no tray or screen โ€” the floor is the shower floor, sloped and fully waterproofed (tanked) so water drains away. A wet room requires more preparation and skill to install correctly, but the result is a fully level, barrier-free space that's easier to clean and more accessible.

โ“

Can you fit a bathroom I've already bought?

Yes โ€” we offer a fit-only service if you've already purchased your sanitaryware and tiles. Share the product details with us at the quote stage so we can check the specifications and make sure the installation will work correctly. We'll flag anything that looks incompatible before we start.

โ“

Do I need planning permission for a new bathroom?

In most cases, no. Replacing a bathroom or adding an en-suite within the existing footprint of the house doesn't require planning permission. Building Regulations approval may be needed in some cases โ€” particularly for electrical work or if you're creating a new WC. We'll let you know at the consultation stage whether any approvals are needed for your specific project.
