Chimneys take a battering from the elements year-round. Cracked pointing, failing flashing, loose pots, and spalling brickwork are all common — and all capable of letting water into your home if left unattended.
Your chimney is the highest point on your roof and takes the full force of wind, rain, and frost. Over time, the mortar joints (pointing) between the bricks deteriorates, the lead flashing around the base can crack or pull away, and the mortar bed holding the pots can fail.
We deal with all types of chimney repairs. For minor pointing and flashing work, we can often access the chimney from the roof without a full scaffold. For more significant structural work — rebuilding a chimney stack, replacing the haunching or the pots — a proper scaffold is the safe and right way to do it.
If your chimney is unused, we can also advise on capping it off properly to prevent water ingress while maintaining the visual appearance of the stack.
Look for white staining (efflorescence) on the chimney brickwork, damp patches on the chimney breast inside, mortar crumbling from the joints, or flashing that has pulled away from the wall. If you can see daylight through the pointing from your loft, it needs sorting.
