Why guttering matters

Gutters have one job: to carry rainwater away from your home. When they fail — through blockage, cracking, sagging, or poor joins — that water ends up running down your walls and into your foundations. In Manchester, where we get more than our fair share of rain, a failing gutter system can cause damp and damage surprisingly quickly.

It's one of the most ignored maintenance jobs on a property, and often one of the cheapest to fix when caught early.

Fascias and soffits

Fascias are the boards that run along the roofline to which the gutters are fixed. Soffits are the horizontal boards beneath them. Both are often made of timber on older properties and can rot over time — particularly if a gutter has been leaking onto them for some time.

We replace rotten or damaged fascias and soffits with quality uPVC boards that won't rot, require minimal maintenance, and give the roofline a clean, fresh appearance. We can also deal with any wasp or bird nesting issues at the same time.

Cast iron guttering

Many period homes in Chorlton and Didsbury have original cast iron guttering. This can last a very long time with proper maintenance but is prone to cracking and rust if left. We can repair cast iron guttering, repoint joints with specialist sealant, and re-paint — or replace with like-for-like style profiles in aluminium where the original cast iron is beyond repair.
