Lead Work

Lead is the most durable roofing material available — properly installed lead flashings and valleys last 50 years or more. We do all types of lead work, from simple flashing repairs to complex valley and parapet gutter work.

What lead work involves

Lead is used in roofing wherever two surfaces meet and need to be sealed against water ingress — around chimneys, at roof abutments, in valleys where two roof planes meet, around skylights and roof windows, and in flat lead roofing and parapet gutters.

When lead fails — through cracking from thermal movement, lifting from the wall, or simply reaching the end of its life — water finds a way in quickly. The damage that follows (to ceilings, walls, and structural timbers) is usually far more costly than the repair itself would have been.

  • Chimney flashing repair and replacement
  • Abutment flashing — wall/roof junctions
  • Valley replacement in lead or lead-effect alternatives
  • Parapet gutter lining and repair
  • Flat lead roof sections (bays, extensions)
  • Skylight and roof window flashing
  • All lead work carried out to BS EN 12588 standards

Lead vs alternatives

For most traditional properties in Chorlton and Didsbury, genuine lead is the appropriate and planning-preferred material. For modern builds or budget-conscious repairs, high-quality lead-effect alternatives (such as Code 3 lead-effect valley trim) are available. We'll advise on the best option for your situation.
